Flute Assembly Checklist

Step-by-step guide to assembling your flute safely.

1

Open your case on a flat surface

Always place your case on a table or flat area — never on the edge of a chair or music stand where it could fall.

2

Pick up the body first

Hold the body of the flute in the middle, avoiding the keys and rods. Grip it gently but firmly.

3

Attach the foot joint

Hold the foot joint by the barrel (not the rods). Twist gently to connect it to the body. Line up the rod on the foot joint with the center of the last key on the body.

4

Attach the head joint

Hold the head joint by the barrel. Twist gently to insert it into the body. The embouchure hole should line up roughly with the first key on the body.

5

Check alignment

Look down the length of your flute. The embouchure hole, the first key, and the foot joint rod should all be roughly in a line.

6

Never force anything

If a joint feels stuck, ask a teacher or parent for help. Forcing joints can damage your flute.
