Right Hand Setup Tips

Position your right hand correctly for smooth technique.

1

Thumb support

Your right thumb goes under the flute, roughly below the F key. It helps support the weight of the flute.

2

Finger placement

Your right index, middle, and ring fingers rest on the next three keys. Use the pads of your fingertips.

3

Pinky on the keys

Your right pinky operates the small keys at the end of the flute. Keep it curved and close to the keys.

4

Avoid squeezing

The flute should balance between your chin, left index finger, and right thumb. You should not need to squeeze tightly.

5

Stay relaxed

If your right hand feels tense, put the flute down, shake your hand out, and try again with a lighter touch.
